Eva & Ryan ... What can I say about this wedding.. I wish you were there to see it!!

From the father of the bride and the groom catching fish behind the venue, the groom finding a geocache (google it if you're not familiar), to ending the night with a dragonfly gracefully perched upon the brides hand.. Chills and goosebumps for everybody.

Maybe you're familiar with the meaning of dragonflies, maybe you're not, but I want you to look at the photos first, at the end I will link to an article that Eva wrote that will help you to understand why this wedding was so incredible to be a part of... Gia - Fitness model

Gia has been preparing for her fitness competition for a few months now.. no bad foods, no alcohol, lots of water etc... etc... She put her mind into transforming her body and she got it done! She competes this Saturday at Mohegan Sun in the 17th annual Fitness Atlantic USA Championships.

The Birth of a Family.

The greatest career in the world is that of a photographer. One of the main reasons for that is the opportunity it gives you to meet new people and experience new things. People put their trust in photographers, we are allowed into peoples lives in such an intimate private way. Over the last few years I have had the opportunity to do just that with Devin & Nicollette.

On my Instagram ( @jlophoto ) a few months ago I posted some photos from Devin and Nicollette's wedding alluding to some big news going on in their lives...

I was lucky enough to photograph their wedding, a 3 day extravaganza with lawn games, camp fires, a ceremony in the woods, a reception in a barn, and capped off with a fantastic breakfast the following morning. Having stayed in a cabin with the groom and all his groomsmen for the weekend really showed me just how much I was trusted and let into the lives of these newlyweds.

Not too long after the wedding Devin reached out and asked me about getting some Maternity photos done. "I know what that means!" I said as I congratulated him on this big big news! Devin and Nicollette would be adding a member to their family 9 months from then!

Shortly thereafter we met at Brooksby Farm in Peabody, Ma to stroll around and get some pregnancy photos...

This is when things get interesting ... I assumed that the next time I would see Dev and Nic after that maternity shoot would be after the birth when they came in to the studio for newborn photos.. But I was wrong, because Devin reached out again and asked me if I would be interested in shooting something a little out of the norm.. "of course Im interested" I said before I even knew what he was talking about (..because thats just how I roll) He then told me that they wanted me to be in the hospital with them on the day of their child's birth. They wanted me to document the birth of their daughter...This is a huge moment for me not only in my career but my life also. What an honor it is to even have been asked to share such a huge moment in a family's life. I said yes without hesitation. Before I knew it I was at the hospital at 10 a.m ready to go!

Sadie Jo was born 14 hours later...

It was only right that we followed up with Sadie Jo's newborn photo shoot..

During this shoot Nicollette had a pretty cool idea for a photo with Sadie and her cousins.. so we tried it out.

A beautiful family has grown right in front of my eyes.

To cap this blog off... Here are some photos from Sadie's 3 month shoot. She's all grown up now!

I like to think that I'm the luckiest person in the world.. I've met and become friends with so many great people who have allowed me into their life during the most precious times of their lives.

Well, I photographed their wedding this past August and to say that it was the greatest wedding of all time may be an understatement... The dance floor was full before salad was served... and it did not stop all night!

No secrets here, Gloria is my cousin and now Sergey is too! Shooting a family member or a friends wedding may seem crazy to some wedding photographers out there, but honestly, I love it! Im able to get shots that I wouldn't be able to in an ordinary scenario. You may see photos of me sprinkled in here and there (shot by Video Guy Extraordinaire Marco Corrado), but most of the shots (as it should be) are of the beautiful newlyweds! This wedding took place on the Odyssey in Boston Harbor...and without further adieu...

I was in Puerto Rico for a very short time, but that was all the time I needed to realize that PR is one of the best places i've visited yet. Its quiet, beautiful, and lively all at the same time. Old San Juan is quite the original spot, SO MANY KITES!! There is so much history packed into this tiny little place, but very modern at the same time. Maybe it was the fact that PR is part of the US that I felt so at home, or maybe its that no matter where you are from, PR would feel like home to you too.

Not all love is created equal, in turn, not all weddings are equal either. This is not to say that some weddings are better than others, but a wedding is special, its custom, its your own little party to celebrate your love however you want to. On this day my sister Joy decided to celebrate in the most romantic way possible... just her, her two daughters, and her fiance at a quaint little hotel in the White Mountains. Its not easy to handle my nieces as they try to get into their dresses and get their hair done, but with the help of her now husband Jeremy, Joy managed to pull it off. The best thing about being the brides brother is the fact the I could shoot in a SuperMan T-shirt! ... I did put a nice shirt on for the ceremony, I do have SOME class after all.

Blizzard of 15

Snow, everywhere... This probably doesn't need much explanation, but with record snowfall in some areas I had to talk a walk around my neighborhood to capture all of the snow. There is so much snow! Did I mention snow?

What interests me more than just the insane amounts of snow, is the perseverance of the people who have found themselves caught underneath Winters big white blanket. Driveways are cut out, walkways need to be carved from the earth, and this is all done with a few grunts and groans of course, But we all do it, we all get out of the snow eventually, even though every year it comes right back to us. I said snow was fun when I was a kid and I remember people telling me its because I didn't have a car or a house to shovel out... But now that I do.. I still think its quite fun.

Retouching an old photo

A friend of mine asked me if I could retouch a photo for her to give to a family member for christmas, I hadn't tried to do this since photo school about 8 years ago, I was hesitant, but I gave it a go.

Theres nothing like old photography... Problem is, photos to eventually become worn and cracked. Bringing this photos back to life was a time consuming but interesting and fun process. It made a great gift, and this memory has been preserved for a bit longer.

Devin & Nicollette - Married at the Barn at Hardy Farm

When Devin and Nicollette asked me to shoot their wedding I was thrilled, when they said that they wanted me to photograph with them for the entire weekend I was ecstatic! It was a 3 day weekend up in Fryeburg, ME. The venue was perfect, its a bed and breakfast turned wedding venue, it was able to sleep the entire wedding party plus some family. The first day was a nice bbq and some lawn games, the second being the wedding day itself, and the third was a breakfast for everybody. Nicollette planned and orchestrated most of this weekend by herself which is a daunting task for any bride. She pulled it off with style, wouldn't you say?

Devin at the guys cabin... It was a short walk through the woods, or a quick drive around the road to get here from the main barn.

Super Cali Fragilistic Photo Blog part 3 of 3 - The Pacific Coast

The last part of this journey. The Pacific coast. Words can't explain what its like to drive down highway 1 in California. Its about 8 hours from San Fran to LA, but its worth every minute. We pit stopped at Pismo Beach on the way down, there are eventually a few shots of venice beach, and then Topanga Canyon (in LA) towards the end with Mikes Bacon shirt.

Yosemite and San Francisco - Cali Blog 2 of 3

Part 2 of the Cali photo super-fragilistic blog. Yosemite is one of the most amazing places I have witnessed with my own eyes, It's pretty extraordinary. Yosemite is only about 5 hours from LA, a nice drive that is just as breathtaking as the park itself. It was Presidents day weekend so our $10 (maybe $20?) fee to drive into the park was waived. #winning. We spent 2 days there and we were able to see a pleasing amount of nature, there is much much more park than what we did actually see though. This was a pretty big reason why I wanted to go to Cali in the first place. I really suggest you go here. book the trip...go! ... really, just do it, yolo.

After Yosemite we drove 3 hours east to San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge is cool, but there was another bridge there that doesn't get any attention at all, I feel bad for that bridge, it looked just as nice as the golden gate. There were some hills, Alcatraz is a lot closer to shore than I previously had thought, aaand uummmmm we did not have any Rice-A-Roni (the San Francisco treat). All in all I wasn't too impressed with San Fran, given, we didn't stay there too long. Honestly though, after seeing, New York, DC, LA, and of course the best city on the planet BOSTON, San Fran is just another city. It felt a lot like New Orleans mixed with Boston, which isn't too bad now that I think of it.

Cali Blog 1 of 3- San Diego, Zoo, and Safari

Me and Johanna (my gf) were about 80% through a bottle of white when we hastily decided that we need a vacation. So we bought plane tickets and 5 weeks later we're off to California! We couldn't really afford it, but we did it, and we have no regrets!! Money Comes and goes, but travel before you have kids!

We landed in LA from Boston, stayed the night with a friend who lives in LA. The next morning we headed to San Diego for 2 days to visit the Zoo and the Safari. We got to see the "Cheetah Run", San diego is the only zoo in this hemisphere that is allowed to facilitate a "cheetah run". They prefaced the run with a warning..."We highly suggest that you put your cameras down and watch the cheetah run with your own eyes, because it is so fast that you are likely to not get a photo of it, and then basically miss the whole thing entirely" ... so thats when I tried to lock down some settings in my camera and pray for the best. Luckily I was able to get a few shots... and even more luckily, they let the Cheetah do it again, so I got to witness it with my own eyes. (basically what I'm saying is don't judge me on those shots, she really was lightning fast) :)

San Diego is the most beautiful, and the Zoo/Safari is incredible.

A beautiful winter wedding. Mark and Jenn are one of those couples who make sure that your having a good time, even on their wedding day they cared about me having a good time while I was working hard to get them the memories they deserved! They did a great job, because I had a blast! and the wedding was perfect. it was a little cold...but hey its New England in the winter, why would we expect anything else?
